Haywood Community College in western North Carolina and The Arts Business Institute (ABI) in partnership with HandMade in America offered its sixth annual Arts Business Boot Camp on March 7 and 8. The boot camp featured seminars led by artists and gallery owners who addressed the challenges of operating an arts business in the current economy. In addition to strategies for coping with the economic downturn, the boot camp covered the fundamentals of marketing for artists and opportunities for one-on-one mentoring with ABI faculty and other artists. Seminar topics included “Finding Your Market,” “Relationships with Galleries,” “Salesmanship,” and “Creation and Evolution of a Wholesale Product Line.
