Fostering Creativity and Expertise in Furniture and Wood Products Industries The Furniture College at Letterfrack, a small village in western Ireland, offers programmes that address all aspects of the furniture and wood products industry. Its mission is to provide a dynamic, educational environment that supports students on a path of development towards creativity and expertise in furniture and wood-based technologies.
Currently GMIT-Letterfrack has approximately 200 full-time students studying on campus. The aim of GMIT Letterfrack is to enable its graduates to contribute to and influence the fields of design processes and manufacture of furniture in ways that are innovative, creative, and responsive to the needs and development of a quality Irish furniture industry. Courses on offer at the college include Bachelors of Science degrees in Furniture Design and Manufacture, Furniture Production and Technology, Furniture Conservation and Restoration, and Design and Technology Education. All of these three-year programmes also offer a one-year honours degree option. The GMIT’s courses in Letterfrack are run in partnership with Connemara West, a community and rural development organization based in North-West Connemara. Since 1987, the partnership has managed and run furniture courses. GMIT has other campuses in Mayo and Galway city and has over 10,000 students registered on a broad range of programmes.
