Strengthening Crafts in the Heart of the West

Sheridan College is located at the base of the Big Horn Mountains in Northern Wyoming. The region is rich in artistic culture, and Sheridan College plays an important role in the community’s desire to strengthen that culture even more. In fact, the college has several new initiatives that support the arts and creative economies:

Sheridan College Main Street. With a new location in historic downtown, the college has partnered with the Sheridan Artists’ Guild Et Al (SAGE) to create an exhibition space in the front of the main street location. This space will provide opportunities for regional artists to display their work.

Big West Arts Festival. Beginning in the summer of 2006, the college established an arts festival featur-ing over 50 artist’s booths, live music, a welding rodeo, and culinary delights throughout the two-day event. The festival was instantly ranked in the top 150 art festivals by Art Fair Source Book.

By partnering with the community, this incubator will bring together business leaders, investors, educators, and students to support entrepreneurial learning and experiences.

Arts and Culture Assessment. Supported by a grant from the Wyoming Business Council, the college is conducting an assessment that will analyze the economic benefit of the arts and cultural community in Sheridan. This will provide a framework to identify potential opportunities for growth in this area.
